Hello, there. It’s been awhile.
Well, the world certainly looks differently than it did back in 2016 when we last posted on this blog. The faces aren’t the same – some have grown and moved on. Others are a little softer, a little grayer than before. Some we had to bid goodbye. We embarked on several large, long term projects back then and are just now beginning to see the end of the tunnel on a few of them. As a family, we have reflected on what is a priority and chose to let some of our old goals go in the interest of mastering different skills. The blog looks differently, too. Technology has far…

#quiltsforpulse
Answering the call of the Orlando MQG *Edit* When I originally wrote this post, I don’t think anyone knew how large the movement would become. Eighteen months and 1800 quilts later, the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild’s initiative far surpassed anything that we could have imagined. I have the privilege of being friends with Alissa Lapinsky, the president of the OMQG at the time. She stored and sorted quilts for months from her small home, all while working a full-time job and trying to maintain some kind of normalcy in a community that was reeling. I admire her more than I can ever express. In 2017, QuiltCon was held in Savannah…

Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2014
Let’s hear it for the Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2014!!! It’s a family tradition on my husband’s side and I was able to finally make it. It is an over-the-top expression of pride and love for Eire. Everyone wore green, decorated their dogs and waved to attract the attention of the floats that were throwing shirts, beads, candy and other goodies. Vendors hawked green cotton candy, emerald feather boas, horns that sounded like bull elk calling to each other when blown and hot pretzels. Churches had tables for free coffee, hot chocolate or simply a place to stand together against the cold wind.

Apple Pie Waffles
Easy, like Sunday morning…. Aaah, Sunday morning. I surprised everyone by springing forth from my bed with a shout that I would be making breakfast. Me – the one who gets nauseous from eating before noon. And these waffles were stupendous. I started with a recipe from the Betty Crocker website for Pumpkin Waffles with Maple-Apple Syrup and proceeded to do my own thing. Enjoy! Apple Pie Waffles (Original recipe serves 6) 2 1/2 cups Original Bisquick® mix 1 1/2 cups milk 1/2 cup applesauce (we made homemade applesauce the day before, so it was fresh!) 1/4 cup vegetable oil 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon apple pie spice 2…

There’s something in the air.
Too tired to even read the menu after unloading the truck. IKEA Pittsburgh. *sniff* I miss you #212! Cool blue. 🙂 I don’t even know what to say. There was a snag in the school registration, so today is actually day 2. Both kids seem to enjoy it, although Sunshine clearly got the better deal. The Reno Kid’s bus picks him up at 6:47am. Previously, he was picked up at 7:20. If my math is correct, it feels like he is getting up at 5:00 now. And his body “is still in Minnesota, Mom.” Yeah, ok, whatever. Get up already. 🙂Today was her first morning on the bus because she…

Being in Pennsylvania… again.
Sandy toes are a beautiful thing. 🙂 Moments later, we drove away without Sunshine’s flipflops. She was THAT excited about Lake Erie. “Really? We’re okay to get wet?!” So close! The scenery of my home state is green. The mountains are a spongy, living-organism green. The frequent showers magnify the texture of the trees and wild plants that cover the slopes and hills the way a microscope brings to light the individual fronds on a fern. The implied lushness and fertility feels like a gentle laugh and a comforting embrace by my mother. Things grow here. But I am not moved in the way I think I should be after…
